The Ultimate Guide to Kids Gaming Parties in Auckland
Planning a kids gaming party in Auckland just got a whole lot more exciting. Forget the bouncy castle and the pass-the-parcel — today's kids want screens, controllers, and the kind of competitive energy that keeps the group chat going for weeks. A Ping Zero Gaming Van party delivers exactly that, rolling up to your door with esports-grade hardware, a certified Game Coach, and enough gaming firepower to make your child's birthday the most-talked-about event of the school year.
Whether your kid is obsessed with Xbox, loves a good racing game, or just wants to go head-to-head with their mates — this guide covers everything you need to know to plan the perfect kids gaming party in Auckland.
Why Gaming Parties Are Auckland Kids' Favourite Right Now
Gaming is no longer just a hobby — it's a social language. Kids across Auckland bond over shared gaming moments, and a birthday party that puts controllers in everyone's hands taps straight into that culture. Unlike passive entertainment, gaming is interactive, competitive, and endlessly replayable. Every round brings a new winner. Every session ends with kids begging for one more game.
The rise of party gaming in Auckland mirrors what's happened globally: parents are increasingly choosing experience-based celebrations over "stuff." A gaming party gives kids a story to tell — and for parents, it removes the stress of entertainment planning entirely. Ping Zero handles the setup, the tech, the games library, and the coaching — and we come straight to you.
What to Expect from a Ping Zero Gaming Van Party
Our Gaming Van is purpose-built for birthday parties. It's air-conditioned, self-contained, and arrives ready to go. Here's what your kids will step into.
The Setup
Step inside and it hits you immediately — this is not a van with some screens in it. The Gaming Van is a purpose-built mobile gaming venue: a custom-designed interior with eight stations built into a sleek screen wall, green LED ambient lighting, black premium finish, and the kind of atmosphere you'd expect from a proper esports setup. Eight players, eight screens, eight controllers — all facing the same wall, all in their own world.
The van is 6m long, 2.5m wide, and 3.1m tall. We plug into two standard power points at your property — we bring our own RCD safety device and outdoor extension cord, so there's nothing special to organise on your end. For internet, we run a long ethernet cable from your router to the van for the most reliable connection; if hardwired isn't convenient, we have a 5G backup. Setup takes around 10–15 minutes and we handle all of it — and when we're done, we pack up and disappear just as cleanly.
Games We Play
We carry a library of 20+ titles, curated for different age groups and party dynamics. From popular multiplayer titles to racing games, sports sims, and all-ages favourites, our Game Coach helps the group pick games that suit the energy of the party. Whether it's a group of competitive 12-year-olds or a mixed crew of younger kids, we've got the game selection dialled in.
All games are age-appropriate and we follow a content-appropriate selection process — so parents can relax knowing the experience is right for their group.
How to Plan Your Gaming Party (Step-by-Step)
Step 1: Venue and Driveway Requirements
The Gaming Van is a full-size vehicle, so it needs a little planning ahead. Here's what we need at your location:
- Driveway width: minimum 2.6m wide (or we can park on the road if the driveway is too narrow)
- Surface: reasonably flat — not a steep slope
- Overhanging trees: trimmed along the driveway so the van can get through without damage
- Power: two standard 230V outlets (NZ plug). We bring our own RCD device and outdoor extension cord.
Not sure if your place works? Send us a photo — we'll give you an honest answer and figure out the best solution.
Step 2: Choose Your Party Timing
A standard Ping Zero Gaming Van session runs for 90 minutes, which is the sweet spot for kids' birthday parties — long enough for multiple gaming rounds and plenty of play time, but short enough to keep energy high the whole time. Sessions can be extended if needed (just ask us when you enquire).
Step 3: Know Your Guest Numbers
The Gaming Van is designed for up to 8 kids at a time. If you're planning to have more children at the party, it will be up to the host to manage rotating time slots and have another activity available for those waiting their turn.
While our preference is to keep groups to 8 for the smoothest experience, we're happy to accommodate a larger group if you're comfortable coordinating the rotations and downtime activities.
Step 4: Book Early
School holiday periods and weekends book out fast — especially in Auckland. We recommend locking in your date at least 4–6 weeks in advance. Enquire via our contact form and we'll confirm availability the same day.
Pricing and Booking
Gaming Van parties are priced at $400 for a 90-minute session within 20km of Auckland CBD — that includes setup, the Game Coach, all hardware, and full pack-down. Simple, transparent, no surprises.
Beyond 20km from the Auckland CBD, a return travel fee of $1.25/km applies for the distance beyond that 20km mark — so if you're 35km from the CBD, the extra 15km is charged each way.
To get the ball rolling, get in touch via our contact form or check availability on our Gaming Van services page. We'll confirm your date, walk you through the driveway requirements, and get you locked in.
Frequently Asked Questions
What age group is the Gaming Van best for? The Gaming Van is ideal for kids aged 7–16. For younger children (5–7), our Game Coach adjusts game selection to match the group — and for these younger groups we recommend keeping it to 6 or 7 kids, so the Game Coach can stay close and help with controls.
Can kids bring their own games? Our 20+ game library covers everything most kids want to play, and we've found our curated selection keeps the energy better than an open library. If there's a specific title your child loves, let us know when you enquire and we'll do our best to accommodate.
What if it rains? No problem — the van is fully enclosed and weatherproof. Rain actually makes it feel more like a proper gaming den inside.
Is there anything kids can't do inside the van? One rule: no food or drinks inside the van. We keep the hardware immaculate so every party gets pristine equipment. Cake and food can all happen outside or in your house — the gaming stays inside the van.
Do you travel outside Auckland? The Gaming Van is Auckland-based and operates within 20km of the CBD as standard. For parties further afield, get in touch — we'll quote a travel fee and let you know what's possible.
